Biomonitoring and automatic control system of microbiological contamination of industrial hydraulic circuits

LIFE logoThe main objective of the project is to validate and demonstrate a new technology that allows real-time monitoring and quantifying aerobic microorganisms that are present in the water of a hydraulic system, and the subsequent correct and consistent dosing of a biocide optimization to minimize these microorganisms. To this end, a prototype will be built at industrial scale and start up on two spanish textile companies with very different hydraulic systems in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the technique. Both companies need disinfection systems connected to cooling towers of finishes on one hand and the air conditioning system for a weaving company in the other hand. Presented prototype significantly improves the management of disinfecting water systems and air conditioning systems making the process more effective by the fact that detection is continuous and can be performed at various points in the system (where the concentration and type of biocide is variable and disinfection must be adapted.

The new method proposed in this project will optimize the biocide dose at any time, thus reducing overdosage or extra waste amounts of biocide (and packaging), making the process cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
