Synthetic Coagulants


These coagulants are liquid products with organic-inorganic character. Synthetic coagulants operate on the wastewater to be treated destabilizing both suspended matter and dissolved matter and forming flocs that can be separated by solid-liquid separation methods. The most common processes include sedimentation or floatation of the precipitate. Highlight synthetic coagulants exhibit greater efficacy than other inorganic coagulants (ferric chloride, aluminium sulfate, poly aluminium chloride...) due to they allow more active colloidal aggregation and more consistent floc than traditional reagents.



•          Selection

Synthetic coagulants are recommended when it is necessary not increase the conductivity of the effluent, because these kind of products have an improved efficiency so variation in pH and increase of conductivity is minimized. In general, SINTEC and ECOTEC series are recommended when the suspended solids in wastewater are very high or the turbidity values required in the treated water are very low. It is worth to mention that lower sludge volumes are obtained with these series of products, the use of neutralizing agents are substantially decreased (sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide...), with the subsequent improvement in the facilities maintenance decreasing corrosion, furthermore products are safer handling. Moreover, ECOMIX, ECOTEC and SINTEC series are proposed for both sedimentation and flotation processes.

•          Dosage

These liquid products can be dosed either directly or previously diluted, without modifying effectiveness, for dilution is recommendable to keep stirring and for application it is used dosing pumps with the necessary flow.

•          Control

The ECOMIX, ECOTEC and SINTEC series effectiveness is distinguished in a very visual way due to turbidity values obtained in the clarified of treated water. The more matter, dissolved and suspended, is destabilized because of coagulant action, the less turbidity values are obtained for these clarified. Furthermore, the floc consistency increases with product effectiveness, so that a high effectiveness of the products gives as a result a smaller sludge volume and easily dewatering because the sludge obtained have a high content of solids, subsequent analytical control of treated water of dissolved salts, metals, turbidity, suspended solids and chemical oxygen demand help us control the appropriate treatment dose.



•          Technical

These types of coagulants have specific advantages compared with standard inorganic coagulants. They have an improved efficiency, minimizing pH value variation and conductivity increment. So that, salts provided to the effluent are lower and reuse water will have less concentration of salts avoiding the corrosion of the facilities in which these products are used. These products also help to reduce the concentration of trivalent salts dissolved in water, also have a strong biodegradable component, so that less toxic sludge is obtained. Finally, it is important to highlight that a higher coagulant efficiency allow more active colloidal aggregation and more consistent floc than traditional reagents.

•          Economic

The technical advantages of these products produce a high number of economic advantages. By not increasing the effluent conductivity, in water recycling processes, the corrosion of the facilities will be avoided, so that the maintenance is much inexpensive than when standard inorganic coagulants are used. Its higher coagulant efficiency allows more active colloidal aggregation and more consistent floc than with traditional reagents, so that the necessary quantity of product is reduced and also the associated costs. Furthermore, due to the more compact floc formation, is greatly reduced or completely eliminated the use of flocculants, and can achieve an effective precipitation of floc formed in the first purification stage and avoiding the extra costs due to the use flocculant. Finally, smaller volumes of sludge are obtained and less toxic sludge are generated so the costs associated to the sludge handling are highly reduced.
